Remote Learning - Resolving Internet Issues on School Devices

Please see the following step by step guidance on resolving the connection issues around Microsoft Edge on school loan laptops. Please Note that this error does not affect DfE supplied devices.


Known Error:

We have been made aware that when devices are connected to the All Saints' VPN from home they are unable to access certain websites via Microsoft Edge. For example the school website. There is also an issue where the Teams loading window freezes whilst trying to collect the login page.


Resolution:

Due to restriction on the Microsoft Edge software that we are unable to change we have managed to change user permissions on the student account to allow them to download Google Chrome.


Please follow the following step-by-step guide.


Step 1:

Head to your Microsoft Edge browser window and search for Google Chrome download or access it via the following link: https://www.google.com/intl/en_uk/chrome/

Step 2:

When the window has loaded you will need to click on the big blue button which says 'Download Chrome'. Once you have clicked on this your screen will change and the install pop-up will appear at the bottom of the screen. (as shown below)

Step 3:

Next you will need to select the 'Run' button from the pop-up window. After selecting this you will have another pop-up display which will ask you to enter an admin username and password for the laptop. Simply click on the 'X' to close this window and the Chrome install will then display the following message.

When this pop-up appears you will need to click 'Yes'. This will then will start the Google Chrome install.


Step 4:

Once the Google Chrome browser has finished installing, the logo will appear on your desktop and it will automatically open for you. When it opens head to the school website allsaints.peterborough.sch.uk to double check everything went correctly.


We are also now suggesting that you use the Microsoft Teams platform via Google Chrome as well however we are still working to troubleshoot the issues around the desktop app. We will update this feed when we know more.
